Kicking this off with a mini announcement
I’ll be exhibiting at MoCCA fest in New York again this year! My table number is #166 and I’ll be giving out a little free epoxy sticker for customers while they last (purchases of $15 or more)! MoCCA is one of my favorite comics/ illustration festivals and entry is $20, so if you’re in NYC March 16-17th definitely try to stop by and check out over 100 cool artists at the Metropolitan Pavilion!
It’s been forever since I last exhibited at a comics show. My last one was November 2022, an art market that ended early after the absolute nastiest migraine of my life. I was actually supposed to exhibit at MoCCA last year too, but had to move my table to this year instead due to my health, and am really looking forward to getting back to it!!
I started tabling during either summer Sophomore year of college or freshman year’s MICA zinefest (pronounced like “magazine”). I’ve been tabling at events for about six years now, and MoCCA, New York Comic Con, and Small Press Expo (SPX) are my absolute favorites. SPX was my first ever indie comics show I’d ever gone to for fun, and from high school through college it was a really life changing place with a lot of amazing folks in the community. If you’ve never been to an indie comic show and you’re on the east coast I’d absolutely recommend it, I’ve made some amazing friends there and learned a lot.
Honestly, I don’t go to many comic shows just for fun anymore. I love them dearly, but if I like a show enough I’ll want to exhibit there too if I can. It’s a fun excuse to travel, get to know people, make connections, and ideally make more than you spent to get there. Plus, I love trading with other exhibitors, so if you’re ever at the same show please say hi! At the very least I can add you to my collection of artist’s business cards (I am not joking, I will keep and treasure it so please contribute if you’d like).
In another post - likely shortly after MoCCA, I’d like to give some tabling advice. If you have any questions please comment on this post and I’ll answer as many as I can! A lot of people tend to ask me about this stuff, so I have some answers lined up but would love to know what you all are most curious about.
Also, I’ve started working on both #8 and #9 of Smile, Crocodile! for you all and hope to have ‘em out soon. In the meantime, hope you have a great week and take care of yourself!
