Hourly Comic Day is an annual event on February first to encourage cartoonists to make comics! There’s no specific way to participate, but a lot of us use it as an excuse to document our day hour to hour. Many of us, myself included, don’t always finish the comics/ drawing day of but it’s always fun to make journal comics! Many of the comics I made in high school and college were autobiographical so I really like having an excuse to make them again. Honestly it can be a bit of a motivator to do more with the day when you know you’re planning to share it with other people in a comic, too.
Below are this years comics, as well as some recommendations of what I’ve been watching, reading, etc!
I wasn’t able to finish my comics day of this year due to migraine issues, but I’m glad to have made them! If you’d like to read more newsletters with comics here’s a few I really love!
Lian Cho, Zoe Si, Danielle Chuatico, Blind Alley Sunday Haha
Aaaaand here’s a few other recommendations for you!
Film: I Live in Your House - a short off-putting 15 minute horror/comedy film about a woman and her neighbor that I love.
Podcast: Sixteenth Minute (of Fame) with Jamie Loftus - covers past and present main characters of the internet in depth with fantastic interviews too! From Left Shark & “30 to 50 feral hogs” to my personal favorite: guy who ate 40 rotisserie chickens in Philadelphia.
Graphic Novel: Please Be My Star by Victoria Grace Elliot - Incredible & Phantom of the Opera adaptation!
Novel: Vacationland by John Hodgman - Extremely chill and funny book about Massachusetts, Maine, aging, anxiety and so much more. Also I love reading books by podcasters ‘cuz my brain reads it in their voice.
Article: Shiny Pokemon Don’t Exist Anymore - this one made me a bit sad but I liked it and would recommend reading the first part at the very least if you don’t care about Pokemon.
Have a good week and take care of yourselves - here’s a drawing of my dog freaking out from a couple of months ago on your way out
-Jayme
These are so cute and spontaneous!
