Smile, Crocodile! #1
Welcome to the first ever edition of “Smile, Crocodile”! A lot has happened this month, so let’s catch up <3
It’s been less than a month since my time at my full time job ended and I’ve been working as a freelance artist. That said, things have been surprisingly amazing. I feel like I can breathe, dedicate more time to making work that I care about, and spend more time with people that I care about. I’m even (somewhat) able to say that I have a secret project that I’m proud to have just joined! I can’t go into detail as it’s unannounced, but just know that it’s going to be cool and take my word for it for now. However, accomplishments aside and arguably the most important news of all: I now have a pet fish named Tango. Absolutely riveting news, I know.
While in theory a fish is not the most exciting pet to have, I think Tango is precisely the amount of responsibility I both want and need right now (and he is a beautiful bundle of joy). Him being stunning aside, having a responsibility outside of myself and my own work has proved itself to be oddly freeing in a way. Thinking about art and career things 24/7 is exhausting, so it’s been really nice to just put my art brain on hold for a moment each day.
In addition to both new and old craziness, I’m going to ideally be leading a high school level comics workshop in December (if I get enough registrations) so fingers crossed I can fulfill my dreams of teaching comics. Worst case scenario, I’ll think of another way to make it happen but we’ll see.
Last piece of news is a little sillier, on my weird lil youtube channel I’ve begun streaming art. That said, it is not my typical art: I’ve returned to my roots of photo manipulation and have begun photoshopping things like a dogs made entirely out of calculators or fruit. Below is my favorite of the monstrosities that I made last night. Should I have time, I plan on making a dinosaur entirely out of sharks. It is going to be exactly as weird and cool as it sounds.
That’s pretty much all I have for you though! The world is crazy, weird, and gross most of the time, but I hope that this banana dog can give you a little bit of joy at least.
Talk soon!
